[Somebody's gonna get a smack down!]
Despite the title of this post, Epic's Gears isn't actually being pitted against EA's Battlefield. Both highly anticipated titles have decidedly different release dates. Gear's comes out this Monday Night/Tuesday Morning, and Battlefield isn't set until late October. Battlefield is also a FPS, and Gear's is a 3rd-Person Shooter. So they don't even square off in that realm. The main similarities between the titles is that they're both, Shooters, with high-octane Multilayer. Gear's focuses on more a focused area of conflicted, Squad Team Death Match, on foot, against your foe. Where as Battlefield sets it's sight on... well like then name suggest, the battlefield in general. Grunts, Jeeps, Tanks, APCs, Helicopters, Jets, the Works. Two completely different games. [OK, we get it, different, then why the giant 'VS'?] Shh! I"m getting to it!
*Ahem*.
It is VS. only in that these to powerful titles have to share a space in my Blog, and one wants more attention than the other. [They ain't get'n it though, it's Even Stevens here!]
So First up, below is a quick little video with a spiffy little Easter Egg. Epic is taking a nod to long time Gears fans and even a nod to Artist Gary Jules. You may remember a few years back when Gears of War 2 was marching steadily towards retailer shelves and subsequently your Xbox's; there was a fantastic, cinema quality commercial shot. In that commercial, Gary's take on "Mad World' originally by Tears for Fears, was played throughout said Ad. [A nice, tone setting piece.]
This video shows you how to get that toe tap'n little didy to play while you waste some Grubs in the face. They guys at Joystiq are the ones that discovered the Easter Egg. Follow the link to the video on their page. Gears Easter Egg. [The Video is 2:26 seconds in length.]
Now for Battlefield. From the get go, every screenshot, every ad, and every video boasting actual gameplay has featured the PS3 only. Nothing has come down the pipe with the Xbox 360 running the game itself. Well that's no longer the case. Below is a short video, boasting the graphics and speed, and overall quality of the Xbox 360. Now Microsoft's Gaming Platform doesn't have the hardware to match what Sony's got cook'n on the PlayStation; but what it comes down to is, what system you own, or what your preference is. Like for me, graphics are important, but not as much as what a majority of your friends own, or if you prefer a different style remote, or you just plane like one system over the other for no rational reason, OR! all three.
So.. uh, peep this. It looks good, even with slightly dialed back CG quality. Otta be a blast no matter what you pick this up on.
I'll be picking this sweet title up on the Xbox 360 myself. [For reasons you may have been able to deduce yourself from the paragraph above. You Sherlock you!. Do you live on Baker St. by any chance? NO.... oh well.. um... eh-heh. Uh, any-hoo....]
Later!
